What is Internet Identity?

Internet Identity is the authentication system used by Pybara Wallet. It is maintained by DFINITY and runs entirely on the Internet Computer — no company holds your credentials.

How it Works

It supports two sign-in paths:

Passkey / biometric

Your device generates a cryptographic key pair tied to your hardware. The private key never leaves your device. Use Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or your device’s PIN. No password to manage.

Social login

Internet Identity links your Google, Apple, or Microsoft identity to a unique on-chain anchor. Your wallet access depends on continued access to that social account.

Your Principal ID

When you authenticate, Internet Identity assigns you a unique identifier called a Principal ID. This is your wallet address on the Internet Computer. Pybara uses this to identify you across all merchants — your order history in the Pybara Wallet is tied to it.

Recovery

Passkey users: If you lose your device, you can recover access using a recovery phrase generated during setup, or by adding a second device in advance. Store your recovery phrase somewhere safe.

Social login users: Access to your wallet depends on your Google, Apple, or Microsoft account remaining accessible. If you lose that account, you lose access to your wallet. We strongly recommend also registering a passkey or recovery phrase through Internet Identity as a backup.
